Sian is a leading food and drink specialist. She heads Burges Salmon’s Food and Drink Team and advises food and drink businesses across the food supply chain on regulatory matters and dispute resolution.

Sian heads the Food and Drink team at Burges Salmon which acts for food and drink businesses across the supply chain, from primary producers to processors and manufacturers, distributors, food service businesses, restaurants and food retailers.

Typical issues Sian deals with include food safety and labelling advice, health and nutrition claims, food contamination and allergens, product liability and product recall, consumer protection regulations, supply agreements and contractual disputes, the Groceries Supply Code of Practice and Trading Standards and food safety prosecutions. Sian also advises businesses on import and export requirements.

Sian is a member of the European Food Lawyers Network (which only grants membership once an applicant has been peer-approved), the Food Law Group and is a consultant editor of Halsbury’s Laws on ‘Agricultural Production and Marketing’. She is on the advisory board of Happerley Limited, which is working with food businesses to develop a food-traceability system to enhance integrity and reduce fraud in the food supply chain.

Sian is frequently invited to speak in the media and at sector events. Speaking engagements in the last year have included appearances on Radio 5 Live and BBC News 24 talking about allergen labelling and food fraud. Sian has also spoken at conferences run by the Food and Drink Federation on food regulation post-Brexit and crisis management in the food sector. She has also spoken at the Leaf Annual Conference on food security and at a Westminster Food and Nutrition Forum keynote seminar on the future of food regulation.
